While canoeing, camping, and hiking, we’ll investigate the natural environment of the Yampa River, its riparian ecosystem, and the surrounding desert and learn how human, plant, and animal life in these special areas have adapted to this unique environment. And, like the native peoples, we’ll be inspired by our natural surroundings to create art and poetry. Qualifies for 1.5 teacher recertification credits; open to the public.

Spend the 4th of July holiday in a spectacular canyon river. This magnificent canyon country of the Colorado Plateau, including Ruby and Horsethief Canyons, features majestic walls of red sandstone and offers some of the best canoeing in Colorado. Roads do not bound this portion of the river and the steep-walled canyons are accessible only from the river, giving the area a true wilderness setting.

Our three-quarter sea kayak circumnavigation of San Juan Island affords participants a chance to kayak among the many small, uninhabited islands that “ring†San Juan Island. You’ll have opportunities to see Orca whales and other large marine mammals. With sublime views of Mt. Baker and the Olympic Mountains this trip is a Northwest classic!

With over 200 rocky, forested islands to explore, the San Juan Archipelago is a superb kayak destination. You’ll experience the fun of paddling and camping on remote islands accessible only by boat! These pristine waters are host to over 80 resident orca whales plus minke whales, harbor and Dall's porpoises, harbor seals, river otters and a variety of bird life. With sublime views of Mt.
