Join Denver Museum wildlife expert and naturalist, Jeff Stephenson, as you venture down the N. Platte River, a haven for over 80 species of birds and a large variety of animals. Jeff is great at sharing his knowledge and making the learning experience fun for all.

Wyoming’s North Platte River, flowing northward from the Colorado border through the town of Saratoga, WY, to I-80, offers 100 miles of the most remote, beautiful scenery and varied river conditions of any river in the West. It gradually emerges from the mountains into a wide picturesque valley, flanked by the Snowy Range to the east and the Sierra Madre Mountains on the west. Lined with cottonwood trees, it flows through cattle country with its “Big Sky” western vistas. This guided and outfitted, 32-mile section of your trip starts just north of Saratoga. The river is bordered by large, spectacular bluffs and slows to placid areas mingling with easy white-water sections. It provides just enough kick to keep you alert and learning. In one mellow afternoon, you may see deer, antelope, blue herons, pelicans, Canadian geese and bald eagles. Wildlife is plentiful. Audubon Society has counted over 80 bird species on this bountiful river section. Those up for fishing will find this clear river one of the best trout streams in the West.
